PART I: SELF CONNECTION
On my life’s journey so far, I’ve come to believe that as human beings, we are a process, not fixed entities, and that our sense of identity changes based on our experiences, viewpoints, and perceived (or inherited) wants and needs.
But what if we achieve a socially validated place in life that meets our set goals and desires and yet we feel more empty than ever… where approval from others seems hollow and we ourselves feel devoid of meaning? That is, if we stop distracting ourselves enough to actually feel ~
If we take the path of denial of our inner reality, our outer one may become increasingly filled with conflict, pain, and mishaps until we can no longer ignore the Call from within ~ the call for self-connection.
It's my view that we all need love, connection and belonging. And most of us (in order to survive in a maladapted world) have disowned, lost, or been forced to let go of parts of ourselves in order to gain conditional approval from the social sphere (family, peers, public), unconsciously betraying ourselves.
As children, being caught in the inherited cycle of such seeking wasn't our fault. But over time, being out of self-alignment can cause our sense of the world to get smaller, tighter, drier, where we’re more likely to perpetuate the very thing we need to release.
Competing for power and control as we frantically try to alter our outer circumstances (or giving up our power completely to allow others to lead our lives for us) can cause us to relive our pain through different settings, players and costumes.
I propose that in order to change our lives and recover our lost parts, we try turning in and healing the connection with ourselves as the first step toward the love and belonging we seek.
